Earn AAdvantage Bonus Miles for Donations to Cancer Research

Earn AAdvantage bonus miles for donations to Stand Up To Cancer. American Airlines is offering extra miles for charitable gifts through Sept. 30, 2026.

American Airlines is launching its annual “Let’s Go Further, Together” campaign on Aug. 13, inviting customers to earn AAdvantage bonus miles through donations to Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C).

Earning Tiers for Donors

The fundraising window runs from Aug. 13 through Sept. 30, 2026. To participate, donors must contribute a minimum of $25 to SU2C via the dedicated portal at SU2C.org/AmericanAirlines.

  • Standard Reward: Donors will receive 25 AAdvantage bonus miles for every dollar donated.
  • AAdvantage Mastercard Reward: To reward cardholders, Mastercard is offering a boosted tier. Those using an AAdvantage Mastercard to donate between $25 and $10,000 will earn 50 bonus miles for every dollar donated.

This enhanced Mastercard tier remains available until Sept. 30, 2026, or until total qualifying donations across the campaign reach $5 million, whichever occurs first.

A Decade of Support: The AA and SU2C Partnership

This year’s campaign marks a significant milestone: 10 years of collaboration between American Airlines and Stand Up To Cancer. Since American first joined forces with the organization in 2016, the airline has raised more than $34 million to support multidisciplinary, multi-institutional scientific cancer research.

The campaign, which features award-winning actress Lily Collins and various SU2C researchers, aims to highlight the importance of community support in the fight against cancer. American’s dedication to the cause is also visible in its fleet, which includes a specially designed Airbus A321 featuring SU2C livery.

“We are proud to celebrate 10 years of our partnership with Stand Up To Cancer, but we know there is still work to be done to eradicate cancer forever,” said Griffin Gonzalez, American’s Director of Partnerships and Community. Gonzalez explained that the airline’s commitment is centered on supporting “team members, customers and communities through their most challenging moments — including a cancer diagnosis.”

Maximizing Your AAdvantage Rewards

For frequent flyers, this campaign provides a strategic way to accumulate miles that offer significant travel utility. With AAdvantage miles typically valued between 1.3 and 1.7 cents each, the return on a charitable gift is substantial. For example, a $1,000 donation made with an AAdvantage Mastercard would yield 50,000 bonus miles. This volume of miles could potentially fund a high-value long-haul trip, such as a flight to London (LHR) or Tokyo (HND) when redeemed through oneworld alliance partners like British Airways or Japan Airlines (JAL).

Because American is a cornerstone of the oneworld alliance, these earned miles provide more robust international redemption options compared to competitors like Delta’s SkyTeam network. To further optimize your mileage balance, you can also supplement your account by transferring points from external partners, including Citi ThankYou Points (1:1), Bilt Rewards (1:1), or Marriott Bonvoy (3:1).

How to Participate

Travelers looking to support cancer research while earning travel rewards can visit SU2C.org/AmericanAirlines starting Aug. 13. To ensure you receive the maximum benefit, remember to use your AAdvantage Mastercard for donations between $25 and $10,000 to unlock the 50-miles-per-dollar tier.
