American Airlines resumed nonstop service between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Caracas (CCS) on April 30. This service ends a seven-year hiatus for flights between the United States and Venezuela.
Schedule and Aircraft Details
The airline currently operates one daily flight. A second daily flight begins May 21. Envoy Air, a subsidiary of American Airlines Group, operates these flights using Embraer 175 regional jets.
These aircraft feature a dual-class configuration. Travelers can choose between a premium cabin or standard economy seating. The Embraer 175 also includes free Wi-Fi via AT&T for all passengers.
Reconnecting Venezuela and the United States
American previously operated in Venezuela for 30 years before it suspended service in 2019. The inaugural flight featured a special “America250” livery aircraft and received a water cannon salute at the gate.
“American is proud to be the first airline to resume service between Venezuela and the U.S.,” said Nate Gatten, American’s Executive Vice President of American Eagle, Corporate Real Estate and Government Affairs. “Our historic return to Venezuela wouldn’t be possible without the efforts of U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the governments of both countries.”
Connection Hubs and Loyalty Value
The Miami hub simplifies travel to Venezuela from other major U.S. cities. Passengers from Orlando (MCO) or Houston (IAH) can reach CCS with a single stop in MIA.
AAdvantage members can earn or redeem miles on these new routes. These miles generally have a value between 1.3 and 1.7 cents per mile. Members can also transfer points from Citi ThankYou, Marriott Bonvoy, or Bilt Rewards to their AAdvantage account.
As a member of the Oneworld alliance, American allows passengers to connect to Caracas through partners like British Airways or Qatar Airways. This network gives American an advantage over domestic-focused carriers for international travelers who want efficient connections through the southern United States.
How to Book
Travelers can book these flights at aa.com or through the American Airlines mobile app. For those with existing reservations on discontinued routes, check the American Airlines website for rebooking options.
